Concept and Progress

We decided to take advantage of the three day Labor Day weekend to make some progress on our basement! 

For those who haven't been to the house (I promise we really do plan to have people over one day!) it is set up like a duplex. Two front doors, two sets of stairs, and two kitchens.  We are keeping the basement kitchen but plan to use it more as a bar/ hang out. And while the location of the TV is still up for debate we are planning to make the basement family room into a cozy place for watching movies and Mario Kart battles!

Kitchen - before and construction progress

My Valentines Day present this year was me coming home to Jeff demoing the kitchen cabinets :-) Since then Jeff has removed the vertical wood paneling and ceiling. We have insulated the ceiling and Jeff is in the process of framing the new openings in between the family room and kitchen. Helping to let in more natural light and open up the space!

Not as much work needs to happen in the family room. We have removed the ceiling to add insulation and new lighting. The big change will come when we temporarily remove the existing fireplace next summer to frame a new brick surround.
